This year we publish George Skipper - The Architect's Life and Works by Richard
Barnes. It is the first book to illustrate and name all his architectural works in
Norfolk, Cambridge, London and Somerset, and to introduce George Skipper
(1856–1948) as a person, as well as an artist-architect. He designed in
vernacular, arts and crafts, and Baroque styles, and planned council houses,
model villages and classical mansions. He had a long career, a story that takes the
reader through art process, controversies and two world wars. The book asks if
Skipper was an East Anglian prodigy or an architect of national importance. The
answer, of course, is both.
